Hello Lovely! Since the secret is out I wanted to tell you all about it! If you’re more into the recipes, travel posts, and gift ideas….. maybe skip to the next post.
Honestly a baby wasn’t even really a conversation a year or two ago. With James being in school and my traveling for work, neither of us had really even stopped to think about it. Over the past year and a half, with things wrapping up at school, we had started talking about the idea of it. Also because nearly everyone around us is popping up pregnant. The oil industry was struggling and we also knew there was a big possibility that when James graduated we might have to move to secure the right job for a new grad. All of this in combination had us thinking a lot about our own family and were we really ready to think about little ones. As James and I have agreed there really is never a perfect time. I’m also not sure you can ever truly be ready to have a baby much less actually raise it (aka make sure it stays alive).
All of this being said if we were going to uproot from the family/community we had created for ourselves in Houston, we wanted to expand our own family. I partially blame (or have to thank) my friend Lori, as I hated the thought of leaving her charming muchkins I had come to absolutely adore. When you can’t borrow other peoples babies but you cry at the thought of leaving them, again probably time to think of getting your own.
We found out on James’ 29th birthday, technically I found out that morning after he left for work. What I had seen that morning was reaffirmed multiple times by multiple brands through out the day. Once I was a little more convinced, I quickly started trying to figure out how to tell my sweet husband he is going to be a dad. Being his birthday, the easiest and least suspicious way seemed to be wrapping a tiny baby toy. I had a total of one hour after work to get to our new house, buy a box to wrap it the toy in, and give it to him, as he was in mid home inspection. All of this before his family was arriving to also get a peak at the new house while we were there for the inspection. I knew I could not keep the secret when I once I saw him for the rest of the night, so I made the quickest Hobby Lobby trip on record to buy the gift box. Thank goodness his family was running late because I couldn’t wait to tell him and honestly was hoping it would make it sink in a little for me as well. I’ll never forget his face when he opened his birthday gift, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen my husband more excited. Funny there was not a drop of fear or concern, just pure excitement.
We were both a little shocked (its a very weird thing to comprehend) but over the moon excited at the same time. Miraculously we were able to shake it all off before the family arrived and made it another 8 weeks (I was already four weeks) before we told anyone. Honestly, I think we needed the full 12 weeks if for no other reason to fully believe it ourselves. At our first appointment (10 weeks along) when we finally got to hear that little heart beat so strong we finally knew for sure, it was ours. I’m carrying a sweet little baby inside of me that has already turned our world upside down.
The new house made the perfect way to tell our families once we were ready. My family came down to see it and the morning after their late arrival while we were making breakfast we had set up balloons saying, “Baby Erwin” in what we have been referring to as the nursery. I told my mom (who woke up due to the noise in the kitchen) after a few minutes we need to go help James decide where to hang curtains in the back bedroom. Her reaction was complete shock and then a sudden realization that resulted in crying lots of happy tears. The next day we pulled the house tour with James family as well who were also very excited and oddly hid any shock (considering we lived with them for a couple months after we knew I was expecting).
All around everyone is excited and I can assure you there will be a good amount of excitement to come. Thank you for all the kind words on social media, we’re absolutely thrilled about our little one on the way.
